Please help me: Problem with ASUS A7V333, Promise SATAT controller (TX2plus) and Plextor SATA DVD (P

Argh. Not only am I having problems with the hardware but I accidentally
deleted my almost completed first draft for this newsgroup. crap.

In any case, here's the issue:
I have an ASUS A7V333 Rev 1.02 with BISO Rev. 1008. I bought a Plextor
SATA DVD writer -- oops! This mobo does not have SATA. (Actually, I am a
bit out of the loop when it comes to recent advances in PC hardware -- I
didn't even know what SATA *was* until I bought the DVD writer!)

So I then bought a PCI SATA card. A Promise TX2plus.

I installed the card in a PCI slot an then plugges the DVD player in. On
boot, the SATA card does a "Detecting....." thing and then posts an error
and boot-up stops:

"
Warning -- The BIOS does not find proper hardware configuration.
Please check your system again!
"

I cannot find any reference to this error on the web anywhere.

I then unplugged the DVD player from the card while leaving the SATA card
in its PCI slot. Now I get the "Detecting...." message, and a warning:

"
No device is found.
BIOS is not installed.
"

But now the computer does boot up the rest of the way. I tried moving the
SATA card to another slot but the same things happened.

Do I need to update the mobo BIOS?
Will this setup work at all?
Has anyone else tried this card and DVD combination?
And, finally, will I be able to get this combination working on my older
ASUS A7V133 mobo?

Incidentally, this does not appear to be an OS issue because the thing
hasn't gotten thata far yet, but I am running Fedora Core 2 with kernel
2.6.9-1.6

Thanks all! later...

The latest bios is 1017, i just updated my A7V333 to it as i just
installed a XP 3000+ CPU, my board is a rev 2.0 though.

might be worth updating the bios an see if it helps.

update the A7V133 bios and it might, 1009 seems t be the latest for it.
