Hello all, I am an aspiring music producer and I currently use my Dell PC for
storing my music files. I have one folder where I keep all the .wav parts of
each music project, as well as the project session files themselves. I hadnt
accessed the folder for a few weeks, and today I opened it and noticed that
all the files after the letters Ca- are missing. I opened one of the project
sessions that was still in there to see if the .wav files in it that were not
there would still open and they did, but I have no clue where all of those
files went, the folder itself does not register that it contains these files
and I have used the search option several times to try to locate them on my
hard drive with no luck. Can someone please help me find out what happened?
thanks a lot

oh ya, to add to that, I tried adding some other files to the folder with
names that started after C to see what would happen and they all disappeared
as well.

Are they gone on your backups as well?
Do they - when added - disappear 'before your eyes'?

no they are still there until i close the folder and re-open it.

That's 1/2 of what I asked...
Are they gone from your backups as well?

- Have you tried making sure they are not 'hidden'?
- Turned on 'show hidden and system files'?
- Went to a command prompt inside that directory and typed:
dir /ah
and pressed ENTER?

If you don't have periodic backups setup to some external media - there is
no better time to start doing it than yesterday. Some inexpensive external
hard disk drive and a scheduled task would be better than nothing. There
are other methods - but if you want simplistic - a batch script and some
copy or xcopy commands work just as well.

If you create a new folder at the root of C or on the desktop and create the
files with the same extention - what happens?
