Please help get rid of e-mail hijack

Andrew

I am getting e-mails returned to me in Outlook that I have
not sent from AOL postmaster. These e-mails do not show up
in my sent folder.

How do I get rid of this? AntiSpyware is not picking it up.

I downloaded a bunch of other programs, and they fail to
get rid of it as well.

Is this a dangerous virus?

Please help.

Hi Andrew

Try This http://www.jayloden.com/AIMFix.exe

You will need to first download the removal tool. Please
do NOT select "open" when you click the link, but save it
to your hard drive, preferably to your desktop so that
you can find it later.

Run the removal tool. After running the removal tool,
please boot into Safe Mode and try running the tool in
safe mode. It should remove the final files if its AIM
related. (Reboot and keep tapping F8 then choose safe
mode from the list)

If this isnt a AIM virus then please try some of the
online scanners I posted in the topic below yours and
Ewido security suite and see if you can find a name for
whats causing this.

If the The AOL messages you get contain links do you have
a address for them or a copy of the file that was sent
out ? At this stage its hard to know if the emails you
are getting are genuine and not infected themselves so do
not click any links if they are in the emails, Post back
anything besides a link if its shown or any scan results
and it will make things alot easier.

I you do not use AIM then forget the AIMfix and just try
some online virus scanners and Ewido or post the contents
of the emails that are being sent from your pc

Thanks Andy

Andrew - do you have an antivirus application installed?

Have you updated its definitions recently?

If you can answer yes to both of the above, and have scanned all files using
that antivirus application, I'd not worry about these emails.

Many current viruses forge the return addresses using addresses found via a
variety of methods--so it is quite possible (even likely) that the mail did
not originate on your machine.

Why are you surprised by this? It happens all the time, and it's called
spam. Once the spammers discover your e-mail address, they send out e-mail
as if it comes from you. When the mail is rejected by some mail servers,
the "bounce" message goes back to you, though you never sent the mail in the
first place.

There is absolutely nothing you can do to prevent this happening. Once the
spammers have your e-mail address, they will use it for ever.

The best you can do is close down your e-mail account, and then create
another with a less guessable name, and which you go to great lengths never
to tell anyone about.
