Hi all,
Right, to start at the beginning my PC blew up about 3 weeks ago. The power
supply was bad and ended up breaking down and taking the motherboard
(gigabyte GA7VA) with it. I bought a new PSU (super flower 520w one with
adjustable fans etc) and new motherboard (asrock K7VT4A+) which got my PC
back up and running.
However since then a few programs refuse to work how they should and BSOD's
have started appearing. I make DVDs for weddings etc for a living and use
various programs. Mainconcept mpeg encoder will now either randomly crash
and give an error message or will suddenly throw up a blue screen. The same
happens with River past video cleaner software. However, these seem to be
the only 2 programs that are doing this. Virtualdub, besweet and all other
programs (including games like the punisher and republic commando) seem to
work fine and intensive stuff like moving large files, compiling a DVD etc
all go fine.. The BSODs give various errors such as 'IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL'
and 'KERNEL DATA INPAGE ERROR' along with various culprit files like
win32k.sys, ntfs.sys or various nvidia files. I assumed it was because I
hadn't formatted my HD after installing the new bits, so the other day I
formatted my HD and did a clean reinstall of Win XP (SP1). This sadly
didn't get rid of the problems though and even created a new one.
Every now and then for reasons i can't fathom, my internet connection now
seems to freeze. I have 2mb ADSL and whilst running either bitcomet or
edonkey or sometimes just whilst browsing the net, the connection will just
stop. I can't open new web pages and bitcomet/edonkeys rates will instantly
fall to zero when it happens. The system tray icon for the connection
refuses to open as does task manager, however other programs on the desktop
etc still work normally and the mouse will still move ok. Also other
systray icons like my printer and the clock will still function normally
too. The only way to solve this is a restart as the shutdown procedure
doesn't work either.
I've read lots of forums and newsgroups looking for a solution but as of yet
have had no luck. I've tried about 5 different lots of drivers for my ADSL
modem and moved it to different slots, 2 lots of nvidia drivers (61.77 and
the latest), different soundcard drivers, disabling the sound card etc and
nothing will work. At one point i noticed that the IRQs reported at bootup
were different from those reported for the same devices in windows so
changed the 'computer' section in device manager to 'standard PC' instead of
'ACPI uniprocessor PC' but it made no difference (although the IRQs do now
match). I've run the goldmemory testing program which reported no errors,
i've run NOD32 antivirus software, ad-aware and spybot which found no probs.
I did think it could be down to bad memory or HD/CPU on it's way out, but
surely that would mean the probs would appear ALL the time and not just
whilst running the progs mentioned above.
Can anyone please offer some suggestions as i'm tearing my hair out
Many thanks to anyone who can help.
