Please! Use sentences, paragraphs, periods, a space after said period and
capitalize only the first letter of each sentence!

My eyes are really starting to hurt reading the posts from so many
illiterate people!

It can drive me nuts sometimes when people do some things like this as well.
Just take a look at this example from my great-aunt.

l.p. has a big problem

1. turns on comp.blue screen with white lettering
3.starts win. normally
4. xp comes on works loads
5. sign says shut down windows to prevent damage to comp.
6.n mountable boot volume and some no.

could you e-mail me steps for her to try, brandon had put a cd in and
then she notice this problem..........................

Don't worry about trying to fix this problem people because I
reformatted the hard drive. I would have done something different, but the
repair install didn't work, and the system restore didn't work either.

I can deal with some of the typing with people, but some like this get
annoying up above. I've seen worse from her than this too.

You & Dick are both whiney little bitches! At least you got the excuse that
your balls haven't dropped yet, but that old whiney bastard Dick doesn't
have any.

If you can't help people without bitchin' about it, then don't. No one
looking for help needs to deal with YOUR whiney crap on top of the trouble
they are already in.

What's stupider?

The illiterate people or the fool writting them to do better?

Um... You're whining too. If you are going to complain about people on
here, you shouldn't go on here either. Frankly, I still help the people
that don't type properly as long as I can figure out what they're saying.
Believe it or not, there are times that I can't help somebody because I
can't figure out what they're trying to say. Some of the people are tired
of seeing YOUR "whiney" crap too. I keep seeing you complaining about
things too. One example is the one which I shouldn't have said anything
here: Wake Up, MicroSychophants! I'm going to ignore anything like this
from here on out like I should have in the first place.

My advice on the subject is, first: understand that many posters here,
English is not their first language (granted some are and could still be
guilty of your complaints), second: is hard to say, don't read them,
because you have to notice the infractions to know of them, third: make the
best of the posts and reply if you can help, fourth: each one, teach one.

However, this approach doesn't count, I wouldn't think. :o(

The internet is globally set just as these newsgroups are, besides whose to
say the day you need someone to help you in a life or death situation, they
don't speak clear English to fit your complaints, will you refuse the help,
Richard?

Richard has a good basis for his complaint. I don't think he is talking
about anyone whose native language isn't English; rather I think he is
talking about the many posters who are too lazy or sloppy to make a post
that is easy to read. I think that the more understandable a post is the
more likely some one can give a good answer.

True, true and could even be more true, Steve. However, thus is life, we
take the good with the bad. The good posts here, IMHO, have always out
numbered the bad. If that weren't the case, we wouldn't see as many +'s
next to the posts, thus creating the threads. <w>

As for the lazy, etc....(as so stated) what they may be missing out on, is
that most replies are given in the same tone asked to match (in most cases),
as for as level/expertise. That said, I haven't found in all of my years an
intelligent 'real' answer seeker using such verbiage/spelling skills.

So then again, this has to do with the depth of computer knowledge/terms or
verbiage and/or communication skills when it comes to putting them into
words. So be it. We are here to help all of them, in one way or another.
:o)

Ah, I complained about a certain person that LIED about my web site. I was
trying to help someone with that.

Basically two things: Liars & Censorship. Ain't the same as bitchin' about
Grammar.

which I shouldn't have said anything here: Wake Up,
MicroSychophants! I'm going to ignore anything like this from here

That was even a complaint little boy, and the entire thread was pulled off
MS's Server.

"So far, all of ya'll have been too chickensh*t to answer this next

so I'm challenging all you 'Microsoft über alles' morons to give the group a
direct, and straight-forward answer. Since ya'll believe that MS's Windows

individuals right to 'fair use':"

"DO YOU BELIEVE THAT IBM SHOULD JUST CAVE IN TO SCO'S LICENSING CLAIMS
BEFORE SCO LEGALLY SUBSTANTIATES THOSE CLAIMS?"

And NONE of the supporters of MS's EULA had the balls to answer it, though
many people replied to the thread before it was CENCORED by MS! That's not
a complaint, it is a fact!

Bitchin' about helping people with their problems, just because they are as
literate as you, show that you really aren't helping people out of the
goodness of your heart, but for your own self-serving reasons.

If you can't see the difference between complaining about LIARS &
CENSORSHIP, and Bitchin' about peoples' literacy, then you got a lot more
growing up to do, little boy.

Kurt, you need to hire a lawyer and file a class action
lawsuit against MS claiming your position and that you and
all of the millions of users have been and are being harmed
by the EULA. Seek $15,000,000,000.00, a re-write of the
EULA by your lawyer and a place on the Board of Directors.
Every Windows user should get a share of the 15 Billion,
since I have suggested this, I get a $110,000,000. I'm sure
you can find a lawyer in the Yellow Page who will take this
case on contingency.

TSK TSK TSK Kurt, quit using someone else's topic to post

just keep on posting getting on your little soap box,
whining about MS..

Indeed. It needs to be got home to people that if they do not make
themselves clear, they are just that much less likely to be answered. I
always simply skip posts in ALL CAPS unless they are very short, and
ones that look at a glance like a stream of consciousness novel. But
one can (if there is time to spare, which for me is rarely) point this
sort of thing out without needing to throw insults at the author. There
are far too many people around here who seem to respond with insult or
obscenity if they do not like a post

Point people at www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm

According to contract law, all I have to do is ignore those terms that
the "licensor" is unwilling to legally enforce, and that I dispute. If
MS doesn't act with due diligence in legally protecting those terms, as
they haven't for over a decade when it comes to private non-commercial
individuals, then MS risks never being able to legally enforced those
terms. I, or anybody else, have to do absolutely nothing other than
ignore MS. Just like IBM is ignoring SCO's unsubstantiated licencing
claims, until they PROVE THEM BY THE PREPONDERANCE OF THE EVIDENCE.

I'll do whatever I like, however I don't bitch about MS, I just expose
them as the liars, cheats, censors, and scumbags that they really are.
It ain't I'm bitchin' about how a HUMAN BEING phrased their request for
help. I point out the abuse of a known corporate criminal, not bitchin'
about those that have been screwed over by this convicted predatory
monopolist writing style.

While I certainly sympathize, you might consider that many who post here
for help do not speak or write English natively, may not be all that
well educated, and may not even WANT to use a computer in the first
place and are forced to by work or school.

That said, I have asked individual posters to use paragraphs, proper
sentence structures, etc. only when I can tell by what they have written
that they are capable of doing so. Unfortunately, it rarely does any
good so I hardly ever bother anymore.

Blame the teachers and education system.. even illiterate people deserve to
be helped.. it may not be entirely their fault that they are unable to
string sentences together too well or express themselves eloquently.. there
are many teachers out there who undeniably know their stuff, but are unable
to put it across in a way that the 'slower' learner can accommodate.. it is
up to those of us that do have a good education to to sift through the given
facts and do our best to help..

And another thing...

Please don't post an answer identical to one or quite often several
replies already posted DAYS before! I can undersand an occaisional
"mistake" of not reading all replies first (I've done that myself once
or twice) and propogation delays between servers of minutes or even an
hour or so, but DAYS later?

There's no question that your last sentence is correct. However
many people are unable to do a good job of writing a question
well, for a host of reasons: they may be uneducated or at least
unskilled at writing, English may not be their native language
(as Kelly pointed out), they may not understand the issue well
enough to tell us what's needed to help them, and probably many
other reasons.

Why not be as sympathetic and as helpful to those people as
possible?

My father, who is 84, is a new computer user. He constantly
E-mails me with questions, and I hardly ever understand what he's
asking. He doesn't know enough to describe the problem well, use
the right language, phrase his question properly, tell me what
he's done so far. Almost invariably before I can help, I have to
write back to ask what he means.

He's not all that different from many of the posters here. Should
I spurn my father's request for help? Should I spurn the requests
of all the others here who are in a similar situation? Of course
not. Let's do what we can to help everyone. If someone doesn't
provide the right information or enough information, let's ask
for it, but there's no reason to be rude and insulting to someone
who in most cases didn't realize he didn't ask properly.

There are only three things that really turn me off in messages:
all caps (which is so hard to read that I usually don't bother
with unless the message is very short), and juvenile postings of
the "f u cn rd ths, u cn gt a gd jb n gd py" variety. Both of
those represent laziness on the part of the poster, and I usually
exercise my right of laziness not to take the time and trouble to
try to decipher them.

The third thing is messages without quotes. Since I don't keep
already-read messages here, in most cases I have no idea what
these are about and simply ignore them.
