Playing video's

I have set my laptop up so i can play dvd on my laptop and send them through
to my tv. At the moment what ever is on my laptop screen is transmitted onto
my tv screen. I have been told there is a way you can separate this so i can
show the video feed from my laptop on my tv screen and keep working on just
showing on my laptop screen.

Also is it possible to do this in reverse put what ever is showing on my tv
screen to show on my laptop screen?

Any help would be much appreciated.

This depends on your graphic card's capabilities. If you are seeing the
same image on your TV as on your laptop, then you are in CLONE mode.
What you want, assuming your card supports it, is EXTENDED mode, where
two displays (in this case laptop and TV) comprise a single logical
display. If you start an application and the window comes up on the
laptop, you should be able to drag the window to the TV and then go
fullscreen.

You probably ought to familiarize yourself with your video card's
features. Right-click on the desktop > Properties > Settings >
Advanced, and you should be able to find a tab for your graphic
software, where the various options are presented.
