playing back captured video

My son captures his video okay, but when he tries to make his movie, it
always leaves the first screen (frozen) for about 7 seconds, he can hear the
audio right away when he plays it back. Why would the video not play right
away with the audio instead on staying on one scene for several seconds than
going live????
