play mode osd

I have win xp and occasionally when I boot up there
appears in the lower left corner a box (always on tops
which blocks the view)with the name "play mode osd". I
have to use task manager to close it. There is nothing in
my startup group to account for this? Any ideas what it
is and how can I stop it?

Check the following key:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

One of the entries there is most likely the culprit.
