PL Alphabetical Page (Lars: take a bow)

Susan Bugher

I've been playing with the script Lars posted (re: the text editor
pages) and decided to try revising the PL alphabetical page. Check it
out - click on a column heading to sort on that column.

http://www.pricelessware.org/2003/PL2003AlphabeticalList.php

If anyone has a problem viewing/sorting this page please let me know the
browser and version. Thanks everybody.

And a BIG thank you to Lars. :)

NOT OK: Mozilla (1.02/Linux) - alpha column (Did you mean for that to be
visible? Suspect it was for debugging.) sorts progname alpha, but *Program*
column doesn't sort alpha. Program sort results in these rows being first:
alphas 18, 58, 67, 78 and 124.

NOT OK: Konqueror (3.0.3/Linux) - sorts Program column like Mozilla.

NOT OK: Opera (6.10/Linux) - same as above.

NOT OK Links (2.1pre2/Linux) - same as above.

Okay, I give up...what *are* you sorting on, with "Program".

No, wait! I see it. It's duplicating the *category* sort.

Strange.

Not quite. It is alphabetising the programs *by category*.

See "It's duplicating the *category* sort", in the line above your
response. :) That's what's strange. If you want a cat sort, you
click category column; if you want a program name sort, you should be
able to click program column, eh? (Yes, I see the "alpha" column,
but I thought that's a working column or a debugging column, not a
viewable/clickable column. Just never saw a similar table wherein
there was one data column that, if clicked, sorted by *another*
column, or that had a "number" or "order" column (called alpha,
here) (which has no actual data, and is just a work column) that you
had to click to sort the broken column.

(No, I don't do JS. But I've sorted a lot of columns. <g>)

Not quite.

It's alphabetizing the data: the URL followed by the program name.

I thought that would be easy to figure out. It appears I was
wrong. :)

back to the drawing board . . .

back to the drawing board . . .

tried the name followed by the link:

1by1 (link)
1st Page 2000 (link)
etc.
etc.

Found out the script does an Ascii sort - all the names that start with
lower case letters ended up at the bottom of the list . . .

not good IMO . . .

I added numbers in front of the URL/program name - don't see any other
simple way to get a dictionary sort.

:) Way to go.

Hey, someone else is here. :)
Now...since it's sortable, and it's *initially* sorted by program name,
until the user resorts it, might you want to call it "Program List"
or "All Programs"?

or Alphabetical-until-you-decide-differently-List?
A small note that says "click a header to sort on that column", for
those who don't know conventions, might be good, too.

Agree.
