PivotChart formatting: feature or bug?

M

Marco Russo

I read many messages about PivotChart that don't preserve formatting
on data refresh. This is also discussed in KB article
Q215904(http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q215/9/04.asp).
Now, my question is: this behaviour is considered as a feature or as a
bug by Microsoft?
In the last case, I expect a solution in a future version of Office
(may be Office 12?). But, this is the same behaviour we had in Office
9, 10 and 11, so I suppose the first case is the real one.

I hope someone from MS could give us a hope in the future...

It's a feature with six legs and wings. But pivot tables also have
always lost formatting when they're refreshed.

Since pivot charts don't give me the flexibility (formatting and chart
types) that I require, I usually make myself a regular chart from a
pivot table.

Select a blank cell that doesn't touch the pivot table, and start the
chart wizard. At step 2, click on the Series tab, click Add, and select
the ranges for the first series. Repeat for each additional series, then
finish the wizard.
