Pivot Tables

I create number of pivot tables in a spreadsheet and they work fine. When I
re-open the file after closing it, the pivot tables are not automated
anymore. I get a message on opening the file that the links were broken.
Does anyone know why it happens?
 
What version of Excel are you using?
Where is the data for the pivot tables?
