Pivot Tables Sort

I am having trouble trying to sort the 13 cycles in a pivot table. When I try to sort it comes up like this

I want a normal numeric sort. 1,2,3 ... I have tried to sort by values, but it gives me the "sort refernece is not valid" error. I have also tried to alter the sort in options, but them I get something even screwier than I started. I have also tried to change the formatting of the cells. Does anyone have any clue what's going wrong?

I've tried to work out what's been going wrong, but I don't get the sam
errors. Are you trying sort as though you were sorting a non-pivo
list?

To sort a pivot table list, dbl click the filed name that you want t
sort (either page, row or column) -> Advanced -> Autosort options -
Ascending/Descending.

The numbers in the data source are been treated as text. If they come
from an Excel workbook, you can use one of the following methods to
convert the text numbers to real numbers:

I was exporting from a database into excel. It was coming over as text versus a number. I converted it using the "hazard symbol" and changing the format to a number. You cannot just select the text (or the column) and "format cells." You need to use the conversion "hazard symbol." Thanks for the help
