In Excel 2003, can I switch off the option of
automatically wrting the GETPIVOTDATA function when
referencing a cell within a pivottable?

The problem is not really the function but the reference
of the arguement is absolute.

You can change this setting, or you can type an equal sign, and type the
cell reference, instead of clicking on the cell to reference it.

To change the setting --
Choose Tools>Customize
Select the Data category on the Commands tab
Near the end of the commands list, select Generate GetPivotData
Drag the command to one of your toolbars
Click Close

Use this button to toggle the feature on and off.

Thanks Debra.
