A pirated version of Windows XP is usually a Volume License
version of Windows XP Professional using a stolen Product Key.
In order to correct this situation, you'll have to purchase a
"Full Version" of "Windows XP Professional" and perform
a "Repair Install". If you wish to install "Windows XP Home
Edition", then you'll have to perform a "Clean Install" which
requires reformatting the hard drive, thus wiping it clean of
all existing files.

| I discovered that a small local pc shop apparently loaded
| a refurbished hp with a pirate copy of XP. I have now
| purchased a new xp home disc, but I do not want to scrub
| the whole system, how do I simply replace the product key
| so it will take windows updates?

| Thanks
