Pioneer DVR-S706 DVD+/-R/RW 8X external drive

Connected to above on IEEE1394 daisy chained to external hard drive.
When there is no disc in drive, explorer recognizes this as DVD-R
drive. The minute you put any disc in it, even before it's all the
way loaded, that changes to CD drive. OS thinks it's a CD drive, not
a DVD-R. Nero 5.5 doesn't recognize it.

This shouldn't be happening right?

Never mind, it comes with some apps to do data DVDs etc. They were
just hidden inside the Movie Editor Software Suite which I did not
install at first.
