Pinning to the Start up menu

I want to change the items pinned to the top of the start
up bar. Each time I successfully uncheck the Explorer and
the Outlook boxes (under properties/advanced) and pin the
items I want to that menu, the 2 return and my items are
gone when I next return. Can anyone help?

The Internet and email programs on the start menu have a
special place to configure them. Right mouse click on
your start button, select properties, in the start menu
tab click the customize button, then on the general tab
uncheck the boxes for internet and email under the show
on start menu section.

I already did all that. That's my problem. For some
reason, the Explorer and Outlook Icons simply reappear
the next time I open the Start menu. Is there a gremlin
at work here?
