XP computers on small network, with ADSL network swithc, all access the net
OK, but one computer can't be seen nor can it see any other name on the
network. The rest workd fine. It can ping and be pinged OK. It accesses the
web just fine just non of the computers on the same workgroup name.

It did work OK but seemed to quit about the time the auto SP2 updsate
occured but I could be wrong.

Done: Checked basic stuff like network name, disabled firewalls during
tests, etc. Have neen through the MS online support but the support ends
right where I need it the most. Example: I tried running the NET REPAIR tool
but got an error CLEARING NetBT, No MS help on this error.
I tried the folowing as per MS instructions at the CMD prompt to test the
computer name: \\computername however I got a "The file name , directory,
name, or volume label syntax is incorrect" Which would indicate the name of
the computer is faulty but I have checked it many time.

What can I have overlooked??

Captron,

To do "\\computername", you need to run it from the Start - Run window. You
can't run "\\computername" from a command window. I get the same result from my
command window.
- Hit Start
- Hit Run
- "\\computername".

If the above test is successful, check for a browser conflict:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/browstat-utility-from-microsoft.html>

If the first test is unsuccessful, or if it's not a browser conflict, and you're
sure that disabling your firewall (what brand?) works, then try all the other
possibilities in this troubleshooting guide:

Thanks Chuck and Paul.

I have trolled through the suggestions and I'm still not sure about the DNS
reccomendation. The IP addresses are manually plugged in with due care to
non confict.

One weird thing: when I run "browstat status >c:\browstat.txt" (less the "")
into the command window, I get nothing, it does generate a totally
blank/empty txt file

In my IPCONFIG I see no bridge, and repeated mention of no DNS other than
ISP server. This is the IPCONFIG info (I added the XX's):

You have IPV6 aka Teredo Tunneling. Get rid of it.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Thanx Chuck, Consider it done, however please be advised I added this only
just prior to doing the test, I have the same problem with or without.

Thanx
Captron

OK, we'll start there, then we'll look for the problem itself. How about you
give us "ipconfig /all", and "browstat status" for both computers, after you
remove IPV6.
