Hi! I lost your email address!

Funny problem with Word 2000 you might be able to help me with. A client of
mine using Word 2000, when he clicks on File-Open and then clicks on the
drop-down arrow next to the "Look in" box, nothing happens and Word 2000
freezes. I've deleted normal.dot (because he mis-represented what was
happening!) and that did nothing.

Any thoughts? (Not sure whether this is a Word problem or a Windows one....)

Cheers

I saw your post about this. I know very little about MS Office because I
hardly ever use it. Here are a few suggestions; have him test after
trying each thing of course.

1. If he is using Windows Defender, have him uninstall it.
2. If he is using Google Desktop, have him uninstall it.
3. If this just started after the latest Windows Updates, have him
uninstall KB908531 since quite a few people are having problems with
it.

I'll go to your website and look for an email contact and send you my
addy.

There are several recent posts in the various Word NG about weird problems,
and uninstalling KB908531 seems to crop up regularly from the MVPs as the
answer.

Interestingly, my XP installation is up to date with patches, but doesn't
have this one! I wonder why?
