Well, not in a long time, but you could google for "ping of death"
Most companies disable ICMP on all internet-facing network interfaces. If
you want to test/troubleshoot stuff, there are other ways to do it. I'd talk
to the admins who run the router/network and discuss your needs - there are
probably better ways to accomplish what you want and still work within their
parameters.
