My Norton Internet Security is reporting a _lot_ (huge amounts) of "A remote
system is attempting to access your computer." and recommending that I
always permit. It seems to still be blocking trojans, etc. Is anyone else
having this problem, and what do you do about it? Thanks.

if u get this kind of attack, i suggest you install a firewall like linksys
(the machine *not a program or some freeware*) i dont think norton will
block those attacks, well not what im aware of.

Another way to look at these warning: the firewall is doing its
job.

Rule #1 for using firewalls of this type is to turn OFF those
alerts. Have it keep a log (if it can do so) and look at the log
when _you_ want to see it.

Have a look at

I had the same thing happen. When the Norton alert appearing I noticed the
recommendation changed from "Block" to "Permit" during the first 2 seconds
it appeared. My guess is that somehow the virus made this happen.

It's inbound (tcp?). I do get Trojan and other alerts, but Norton stops
traffic from that source for at least half an hour when it occurs. This is
just some remote computer trying to access mine. Perhaps a hardware
firewall is in order. Does anyone have a brand and model number??

Linksys, as "unknown" recommended.
Model: BEFSR11, BEFSR41, BEFSX41, depending upon your needs.

If it's really a 'ping' then just ignore it. My ISP pings me quite
often, just to see if I am alive and well, and what the transit time is
like. I can turn 'respond to ping' off at my router, but that makes it
hard for the ISP to diagnose network issues, so I generally just leave
it alone.

If it's something more serious, like an attempt to access Windows shared
resources, then you might want to investigate who tried and why, but
frankly there are lots more important things you could worry about.
