PID is invalid for this version of Windows XP

I have Win98 and I am attempting to upgrade to WinXP-Pro. I can't get past
the Product Key dialogue box. Could anyone help me out with this one. I'm
out of ideas here.

After I enter my Product Key the installation errors and will not let me
proceed. The error reads:
"The pid is invalid for this version of Windows XP, provide the pid that
came with the Windows Upgrade CD."

- I’m running Windows 98SE 4.10.2222.A
- My Win98 is current on all its updates.
- Scandisk and defrag are current.
- I purchased the XP software today from Costco.
- I have carefully verified that the Product Key was entered correctly.
- I've disabled my Norton Antivirus.
- I have copied the I386 folder from CD to hard drive.
- I have tried clean-booting Windows 98.
- I have read MS support articles 310064, 310637, 307153 without resolution.

The Setupp.ini on the installation CD contains:
Pid=76488000

This PID doesn't match anything I've been able to google. But the PIDs I
found for WinXP-Pro (Upgrade) wouldn't work in the Setupp.ini either. I was
hoping to avoid the trouble of a clean install - and at this point I'm not
sure if that would even work. Thanks for any help you could give me.

I finally called Microsoft installation support. They picked up the phone on
the first ring and figured out the problem immediately. (I was pleasantly
shocked.)

Apparently the Product Key number on my yellow sticker was for a full
version and the media was for an Upgrade. The support guy generated a new
Product Key number for me an I am on my way!!!
