Picture will not work from desktop

I have the WINDOW and FAX viewer set as my default to show pictures.
It works very well from ANY location EXCEPT the desktop.
If I double click any picture(jpg/gif etc)icon on the desktop I get a one
second flash of the WINDOW & FAX viewer and then nothing.
If I right click and select OPEN WITH and then select the WINDOW & Fax
vieweer all is OK
How can I correct this annoying trouble

That's usually caused by an invalid shortcut on your desktop.
 
Oops I replied earlier to the wrong window.Ignore it.Sorry.

You have an invalid shortcut on your desktop.Selete that and recreate a
fresh one to solve the issue.
