I have FrontPage 2003.

Pictures in the photogallery shows red x's - please read below!

I have read all of the other answers to people who have had this problem,
but nothing works!

I have resized the pictures, and imported ALL of them. None of the names
include any illigal characters.
This didn't happen when I made another photogallery on my homepage (see:
http://home.no.net/ise82/min lille, gode pus.htm ).

No matter what I do now, all of the pictures I add to my homepage shows as
red x's, either they're in a photogallery, inserted in a table or.. well, u
name it.

Sorry for nagging!

If you click on one of the pics w/red x the 404 page claims that it is not on
server. Did you put images in folder? Check the server

you do have one image on the index page that is red-x'ing too.

try Recalculate Hyperlinks on local machine and on the server too.

For starters, try taking the spaces represented by "%20" out of your file
names: min%20lille,%20gode%20pus.htm
Then I would seriously consider NOT using the FP photogallery component.
Here are some suggestions:

I especially like JAlbum. And that way your larger photos don't end up in
the top left of an otherwise blank page ...it's not really a page either.

What do you mean "did you put images in folder"? They are in a folder in my
computer/my pictures. When I imported them to FrontPage, they also came in a
new folder in "my web sites" under "photogallery". Just like the other
photogallery I have!

The question is: WHY is this suddenly a problem now? I've got a lot of other
pictures on my homepage!?!? And I'm doing it the EXACT same way as earlier!

Any suggestions will do! I'll try ANYTHING!

but... how do I check the server?? The connection to the internet is okey,
if that's what you mean? :o/

This one is missing:

http://home.no.net/ise82/photogallery/photo00016204/paasken21.JPG

on this page;
http://home.no.net/ise82/min lille, gode pus.htm

And you do have illegal characters in some file names, you should clean that up...although it may not be your main problem here.

I think part of your problem is image SIZE, for instance:

http://home.no.net/ise82/jul03.pus10.JPG this image (just a quick grab off your home page gallery) the file size on this is almost 1.5 MEG...even though you've resized it (probably with FP). Don't use FP to re-size and optimize your images...FP is NOT good at that.

You can use IrFanview (free) to resize/optimize images...its a great batch processor as well.

Anyway, FP galleries have an issue with image file size...what it is I can't say...it's just something that some people run into (me included)

Hope this provides some insight.

I have downloaded the JAlbum and created an album. But how do I get it into
my homepage???

You have to IMPORT the whole folder into FP. I'd single click on the root
folder, go to File>Import> Add Folder. Good luck!

Preparing your photos means optimizing them correctly. This article will
help I'm sure.:
http://www.eleanorstravels.com/usingphotos.htm
As Rob said.... do not use FP to resize or optimize the photos. they all
need to be about 500 pixels wide for horizontal or 450 pixels tall for
verticals and no more than about 60 kb each! Prepare them completely before
using JAlbum.
Which Image editing program do you have? Then I can be more specific!
Eleanor ... now I'm off to breakfast ... see you in a bit!

Recalculate Hyperlinks;

Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks...you should do this after you manually rename files or move a lot of stuff around.

Sorry, late reply.

I have Microsoft Picture IT 7.0.... I resized ALL of the images on
http://home.no.net/ise82/bilder.htm using this program.
The pictures in the photogallery on
http://home.no.net/ise82/min lille, gode pus.htm on the other hand I
DIDN'T resize... So why on earth does that photogallery "work" (with just 1
error or red x), while this new one doesn't?

I'm on the verge of giving up now. I just want to throw my computer out the
window or something. But anyway. DO give me more advice if you have any, I
would really appreciate it...

Soon bedtime now. I'll probably check for replies when I'm back from work
tomorrow.

Thanx.

It appears that the thumbnail images have not been uploaded to the site at the location specified,

http://home.no.net/ise82/photogallery/photo00006018/bilde1.jpg

Or the case of the path/filename is different from the case of the actual path/filename, and need
correcting.

Under Unix/Linux OS, Index.htm and index.htm are considered to be two separate files, whereas under
Windows they would be considered one and the same.

I don't know that program ... sorry.
Have you optimized them all down to no more than 50 - 60 KB a piece?
You still need to take out the spaces and upload the thumbnails.
Also add a page title ... in place of "new Page 1".
Here is my personal email: (e-mail address removed) Contact me there.

Could be a couple of things...

You may have optimized the images incorrectly...you should optimize them outside of FP then Import them back in to FP... *then* put them in photogallery...you can't optimize them inside of the photogallery.

Second...judging from the file size of your other images that did make it to the server...several that I looked at are 1.5 MEG and over!...that's huge!...with all those large files you may have hit your web file limit OR you hit the FP Photogallery limit (this is an unknown limit...no one seems to know exactly what it really is)

I have optimized them outside of FP, then imported them and finally made the
photogallery.

I still got 10MB to go before I reach the web site limit... so it has to be
the FP limit then. I'll try now to optimize some of them and see what
happens. But I don't want to do it with all of them at the same time in case
all of them turn up with red x's...

thank you for your advice!!!

Yes well... I optimized 2 of the pictures and put them in the photogallery.
They both showed as red x'es on the web, but one of them was red before I
optimized the picture too. So I changed it back... And now only 1 of the
pictures has a red x.
Hard to explain. But anyway. This shows that the FP limit hasn't been
reached. Or maybe there's something I do wrong when I optimize images? I do
it in Microsoft Picture IT...

If you optimize a image file and you use the same file name (outside of FP) then re-import it to the same location inside FP and let it overwrite the original un-optimized file...then put it in your photogallery.

Recalculate Hyperlinks.

Re-publish.

Of course by now you're probably ready to throw in the towel :-)
JAlbum really is good...spend some time playing with it first.
