pics saving only as bmp..never jpg

im just wondering how i screwed this up...but everytime i get a picture online and i click save as on it, i can only save it as a bmp. Which is wierd because the file i wanna save is a jpg file. Any clue as to what is messed up and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
