Photos get saved as file type I don't want

When I scan in images using my Epson scanner, I set it to save them as JPEG
files, but the files appear on my computer as "Type: Paint Shop Pro Images".
I no longer use this software and when I try to open them using other
software, I have to change this setting first.

Is there a default setting somewhere which has been set to do this and if so
where do I find it to change it?

Right click on one of your photos.
Click on Open with on the opening menu
Click on Choose program at the bottom of the opening list
Click on Windows Pictures and Fax Viewer on the opening list and check the
box "Always..."
