Photogallery options

I am using 2003 SP2. I created a site using the photogallery template. I
set the properties to use the vertical layout. When I preview the site, and
click on a thumbnail to view - there's no way to get back to the previous
page (only the browser's back button - not great when the site is inside a
frame).

How do I add navigation to the vertical layout?

You don't unless each large image is on separate html page, where you can then place a return link.

if you open the site that contains the gallery there's a folder called
photogallery/photo(random number). open that and look for real.htm inside.
Open it and right click the first "thumbnail" image, chose hyperlink
properties. in the hyperlink properties dialog box click the target frame
button on the upper right. set it for _blank, and select the "make page
default" check box. save it and save the changes.
now at least your full size pictures will open in a new window.

this modification will only "stick" until you go back into the gallery with
the gallery properties dialog box.
