Photofiltre

Bad news and good
Bad Reading the forum (infrench) I understood Antonio is planning a new version
of his program Photofiltre, but he wants to release it as shareware.

Good On the other hand, version 6.0.1 will remain free and supported for private
use.

Personally I have some mixed feelings about it,
His reasons for becoming shareware are quite clease and prefectly
understandable for me, on the otherhand, I'd rather would like the product
to stay freeware.

The main concequense for this group will will be that Photofiltre wil not
discussable with John Corliss anymore. I'm quite certain the 6.o version wil
remain for download at photofiltre.com.

Will John's name still appear in the shareware version for doing the
English translation?

In other news... I have been using this program quite alot lately and
like it alot. No surprise that it would go that route. Thanks for the
update.

I guess it is up to John and Antonio to figure that one out. But i guess it
will if John doen not take action himself.

On the otherhand, If Antonio wants to create a shareware version, he will
need to add extra goodies, or his revenue will be nill. And If there are
aditional feature's he will need to write these himself, I guess.

Only John or time can tell...

This is sad, but at least we will always have the Gimp. Good thing
about it is that it supports layers, but its install is a mess. For
free there maybe still that free old version of Serif's PhotoPlus
around.

I want details about those install problems! :)

Installing the Gimp has never been a problem here, on my Win2K
system. Install the right GTK build, then install the Gimp and
voilà. The installers are both available from:

I should have been a little more clear :)
I didnt really mean problems, it is just confusing to get the right
GTK-Gimp compatibility match. One time, I installed an incompatible
one. THing I hated though, was the size of the GTK lib--but, the Gimp
is brilliant. People often knock its interface, but I actually like
it.

best,
