Photo Story to DVD or VCD?

I realize you're probably flooded w/ these questions now that this program is
offered for free(or not, maybe i'm just discovering it). I have read through
all hte posts concerning photo story, but it seems alot of the posters are
already quite knowledgeable in photostory.
This program is GREAT, i put together a cute little show of my kids at the
beach and i'd love to share it with my family, but i can't get it to burn ont
a dvd or make it into a vcd.
I have tried WMP, sunburn and the dvd programs that came w/ the burner incl
showbiz dvd.
I read to change it into an AVI in WMM, but i couldn't figure out how to do
it, also when i play the photostory in WMM, it has alot of pauses between the
photo's, it doesn't move smoothly as when i play it in photostory.
If anyone can help me figure this out i'd be very appreciative..and i'm
afraid you'll have to spell it all out, step by step. I'm sure there's more
like me out there anyways, would help to have it spelled out for others to
find. ;)
Thanks! Lee-Anne

Hi PapaJohn
I've read through your tips/tricks as well as the site that was linked.
I've saved the profiles to PS3, but now i have no idea where to go. The other
site used Sonic which i do not have and I was completly lost after the
profile thing(which i'm not even sure what the profiles are lol)
Do i save it with the profiles you have and then go through WMM? I'm going
to try that while I await your feedback.
Thank you very much.

Hi Lee-Anne

Neither Photo Story nor Movie Maker can make DVDs, except for the Sonic DVD
plugin to PS3 and DVD Plug-ins on some Windows Media Edition computers...

once you save the story to your computer, using any of the profiles, you
need to use your DVD software. Some brands/versions can handle the stories
without conversion, and some can't. If yours can't, then Movie Maker is one
of the tools you can use to do the conversion - to DV-AVI would be
appropriate.

Hi, I told you i'd be difficult!

Ok so the ps3 program itself can't burn dvd's i know..but my dvd burner came
w/ this arcsoft software and it won't recognize the story to burn it onto a
dvd.

Do i open it in WMM and then save it as the dv-avi? If that is correct, my
next question is-when i open the story in WMM there are pauses between
pictures, it doesn't run smoothly as it does w/ PS3, is this fixable or is it
SOL b/c i won't buy the special dvd burner program? (i've got recordnow and
hp dvd writer and sunburner and wmp..i really don't WANT to buy something
else lol)

Profiles..conversions..speak slowly, i'm virginal at all this! ;)
Thanks so much for your help & patience

Any one of these posts might be my last one for quite a few days... I'm
heading to Microsoft for the MVP Summit...

I'll type these words slowly... to get from a PhotoStory 3 story to a DVD...

- use the story (wmv file) directly in your DVD software... some will take
it and some won't. It's not just the software brand. It could vary by the
version.

- if your DVD software won't accept it, convert the wmv story to a DV-AVI
file... import into Movie Maker 2 and save it as a movie - to your computer
using the DV-AVI setting... try the DV-AVI file in your DVD software.

- if your DVD software won't take the DV-AVI file, it's because it's a type
I file and many DVD software apps will only accept the older type II DV-AVI
files.... get a free conversion utility (links on my Setup > Other Software
page) and convert it from type I to type II.... try that one in your DVD
software.

If your DVD software doesn't accept the type II DV-AVI file, then you need
to get tech support about your software, as it's beyond Photo Story and
Movie Maker.

Lot's of luck... run a small sample all the way thru until you're seeing it
on TV, before investing lots of time in the big project.
