Ellen, a newsletter reader, sent me a link to a website with packages of
downloadable midi files that are free to use for non-commercial purposes.
I'm passing it along:

http://members.shaw.ca/smythe/archive.htm

There are 16 packages with 2,650 files of full tunes, made by scanning those
old rolls of paper from 'player pianos' and converting them to computer midi
files.

It's hard to tell the difference between hearing the midi file and a real
piano.... much higher quality than the computer generated midi music of
Photo Story 3.

A wonderful resource for background piano music for stories and movies.

Try adding a .wma, .mp3 or .wav file.

Midi files do not contain a sound font...they
only contain the musical notation. (That's why
the files are so small)

With some experimenting...the freebie at the
following link will enable you to combine the
midi with a sound font and covert the file to
an .mp3. you can use in your photo story.

After the program unzips at C:\timidity......
open the folder and read the TimiditySetup.txt
file...it explains how to use the program.
timw32q.exe will launch the program.

As a follow-up note to this thread, I used 3 of the old piano roll midi
files to create background music for a 66 second ample story, playing the
midi files in WMP10 and narrating the timeline in Movie Maker to create WMA
files... then I used the MM2 audio track in PS3 as the background music.
Here's a link to the sample story...
