photo quality is horrible when I import pictures?

I am using MM to create a "photo story" for the year to send out to family as
a christmas card. I have a Cannon XTI 10 MP digital camera that takes
amazing shots but as soon as I import them into movie maker, then quality
dissipates and I can't find any options to change that. Can anyone help?
Are there ways to change that or is there another program that one can refer
me too?

If you are dragging the pictures to the timeline
and then viewing them full screen...the lower
resolution is to be expected...it does not affect
the completed movie file.

BTW...PhotoStory 3 is a better app for still pictures:

Also...you may want to try using a custom profile,
