Hello, I have created a photo gallery, but when I uploaded it the small
picture had a red cross but when I actually clicked it for the big picture
the big picture appeared! Why is this?

the thumbnails haven't uploaded to the server.
can you post a url?

in the mean while, open the gallery again, make a change of some kind so
it'll re-save. before re-publishing hit tools/ recalculate hyperlinks.

a fantastic convenience for site owners.

Well I have only done a test and the URL is
http://www.jdurrant.co.uk/test.htm but the strange thing is in Front Page
when it is the small picture it shows the picture but then on the main site
it shows a red cross, but when I click the red cross on the main site the
actual picture does appear!

It sounds like the thumbnail images haven't uploaded to the server. Make
sure you publish all the pages and images.

You're on a *unix system.

Try removing all spaces from file names (the will appear as %20) then Recalculate Hyperlinks and Re-Publish...that might help.

If you want spaces in file or folder names you can use the underscore _ (it won't give you a space, but it's not an illegal character).

Hello, when u say Unix system do u mean the people that host my site? As I am
not with unix myself! The actual picture file names have no spaces, so I
don't fully understand what to do? The pictures have loaded to the site as
when you click the red crosses you can see the pictures, so its just the
thumbnails that are not there, why is this? Also I the URL is now
www.jdurrant.co.uk/TEST2.htm

Your full size photo filenames do in fact have spaces. Replace the spaces
with underscores. Also, may I suggest a you use a redeye removal?

See the spaces? :-)

Also this cute pix of someone with the elephant hat :-)))) is WAY too big...its over 356K...you need to optimize them or your friends on dialup will not wait to download them.

You can download "Irfanview" to batch optimize your images...it's free and works great.

After you rename all your images, it will be easier to just re-generate the album. then Re-Publish to your host. (yes, your host is linux/unix - not you).

rob
