Photo Gallery

I just bought FP2003 and have a question about the Photo Gallery. So far, I
haven't found the Photo Gallery to be quirky, but it is very limited and
does not seem to be able to make the kind of gallery I want.

I would like to create a photo gallery with the thumbnails in columns or
rows, with the large photo in the center. So, for instance, I'd have two
columns of thumbnails on the left, the large photo in the center, and then
two more columns of thumbnails on the right. Or, for another example, I'd
have two rows of thumbnails on the top, the large photo in the center, and
then two more rows of thumbnails below.

I've read Eleanor's Tutorials and checked Adobe Photoshop, JAlbum, and the
other software she suggests. But, unless I've misunderstood something, I
can't find an application that does what I want. I know this sort of
gallery is possible, because one of the authoring tools I demo'd (maybe
Dreamweaver) does this.

So, can anyone suggest some software (preferably inexpensive) that does what
I want? Many thanks.

You mention you just bought Front Page 2003. Why don't
you use that?

Don't use the Photo Gallery as you've already discovered
it is limited in the way that you may display your photos.

I would suggest you look into using Front Page tables to
first create the "holders" for your thumbnails in the
format you want.

You could create a three column table. The table cells in
the right and left hand columns could then be used to
contain your thumbnails. You could merge whatever number
of cells (highlight cells to be merged and then right
click) in the center column that would be required to
contain the larger photo.

If I do it that way, would the large photo in the center change to display
the thumbnail that is clicked on? If so, how would I get it to do that?

Thanks.

Needs javascript or something. - does FP2003 have an image swap (Dhtml) function
to allow you to click on one image to change another? (it's done with javascript)
rather than just a "rollover" like in FP 2002.

With JAlbum this _is_ possible to do.

You actually can do it effortlessly with FP 2003. There are 3 choices:

1) Use Behaviors/Image Swap
2) Use Behaviors/Change Property/Show and Hide Layers (This is a good
choice if you want captions)
3) Use an I-Frame (Folks will have to Click on the Thumb for this option)
