Photo File Transfer from Int HD to Ext HD

I recently installed an external 230 GB HD to transfer photo files to and
free up internal HD space. The hardware installation went fine, but I can't
find info about transferring my stored photo files from the C: internal hard
drive to the new L: external hard drive. Searching 'Help' indexes hasn't
turned up the right answer. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Since the external drive shows up as a
drive letter in "My Computer"...all you have
to do is...Copy / Paste...or...Drag / drop...

Right click a folder ...and from the menu...
choose...Copy. Then go to My Computer...
right click the icon for your external drive
and from the menu...choose...Paste.

You may even want to create a shortcut
to your external drive on your desktop for
convenience.

Also you could...left click / drag...a folder
to the icon and drop it.

Once you are positive that the files can be
accessed on the new drive, you can delete
the files on your internal drive.

In addition to archiving the files on the external
drive, I would suggest that you burn the files on
CDs or DVDs...it's good insurance...optical
drives are known to fail...even when relatively
new.

Open My Computer.
Select (highlight in blue) the folders you want to transfer.
Look at the menu on the left of the listed folders and click on "Move
selected items" or "Move this folder" if you select a single folder.
A window will open for you to navigate and select your external drive.

You can also decide to move the default "My Pictures" folder to your
external drive if you wish. Just select it and move it. Then this default
folder will open from your external drive.
