By photo descriptions, I guess you mean file name.
To get it back, when in thumbnail or filmstrip view, click on View and
change the View to Details.
Hold the Shift key down and while holding it down, click on View and click
on thumbnail or filmstrip. The name of the files will now be under each
file. If you want to remove it, do the same thing again.
