Phone numbers in the Contact List

When entering a phone number into a contact entry in Outlook brackets
automatically get put around the area code, as in (403) 555-1212. How can I
set Outlook up so that brackets are not automatically put in place. I'm
asking this because I have my system set up so that contacts are shared
between Outlook and the OE Address Book, and the Address Book does not use
brackets. Thanks.

You can't. Masking of phone numbers is hard coded in Outlook unless you
disguise them completely in which case they would be of no use to OE either.
There is no good way to share Outlook Contacts with OE using current
versions.
