Personal.xls -- What is it all about?

ok, from what i understand, personal.xls is a hidden workbook that open
everytime excel is started...now there's a macro that i need to ru
everytime excel starts up, so if i can put the macro in personal.xl
everything will be wonderful. the problem is, i don't know much abou
this personal.xls, i don't know where to even locate it. Can some o
the forum users educate me on the whole personal.xls thing, where i ca
find it, and the intended purpose of it, so that i may implement thi
macro that i need to run everytime i start excel...i was thinking o
attaching the macro to the opening template, but if personal.xls is a
"always open" but hidden workbook, i can attach other macros to it, an
not worrying about a different workbook opening up everytime i click
custom macro button in the toolbar.

thank

Any workbook in the xlstart directory will be opened when Excel is started.
the xlstart directory is located below the directory that contains
excel.exe. In xl2000 and later, there are several xlstart directories if
you are us Windows 2K or later. If you hide a workbook in Excel and then
save it (use the immediate window), then the next time it is opened, it will
be hidden.

So there is nothing special about personal.xls except that both of the above
apply. If you record a macro, excel will offer to record it in
personal.xls. If personal.xls does not exist and you elect to record it in
personal.xls, personal.xls will be created for you. So if you don't have a
personal.xls, then record a macro and select that as the location. then
stop recording and you can remove that macro - you can see personal.xls in
the VBE.
