Hi Dominic,

All you will get in Office 2007 is the Quick Access Toolbar. You can
position it below or above the ribbon and add controls and groups to it.
That's it. Microsoft has made VERY clear that you won't be able to
create your own toolbars.
For a discussion of what you as a user can customize in Office 2007,

I have a toolbar created by a VBA macro written in previous version of Word
(and stored in .dot file in startup folder). The toolbar shows in the
Add-ins tab of the ribbon. So far, Word 2007 happily opens .dot templates
from old versions of word.

Hi Patricia,

Yes it is possible to create items on the ribbon and have them be there.
One way to do so is by using CommandBars from previous versions.
However, you don't get the benefit of a real toolbar, namely that it is
always visible and usable. You can't even keep the Add-Ins tab in the
foreground all the time, because Office will switch tabs sometimes
automatically.

Thanks Dominic! Subscribe to the blog and you'll find out when my add-in
to do some real customization will be available to download ;)
