Personal data file not closed properly

Recently, every time I open Outlook ((Office XP SB Ed V2002), I get a
dialogue box that says "Personal data File was not closed
properly......checking for errors" This can last from 3 mins to 20 secs
before Outlook opens. I don't find any errors. Tried clicking to File and
clicking on "Close all items" but does not work. Can someone help? Please use
layman terms....not computer illiterate!!

This error is sometimes caused by a corrupt .pst file (personal data file).

You can try running a cleanup utility that cleans up your outlook .pst file.
First do a search for your .pst file(s) so you know the location.
Then do a search on your C: drive for scanpst.exe and double click it to run
it.
When it runs it will prompt you to select your .pst file (typically called
outlook.pst)
It will tell you if it found errors and then repair them at your prompt.

Hope this helps. If this does not work please let us know.

Since after running scanpst.exe on the file, you still have the problem. the
file may need to be compacted.
PST files get frameneted like a hard drive does after files have been moved
into and out of the PST.
Compact defrags the file or removes left over empty space.
If the file is fragemeted or has lots of empty space built up in it, it's
likely you will continue to get the message frequently when opening Outlook
until the compact is run.
To Compact a PST:
On the File menu, click Data File Management.
Click the data file that you want to compact, and then click Settings.
Click Compact Now.
Close Outlook and then reopen.

Hope this helps. Please let me know how it goes.

You appear to have some other application that is keeping Outlook open even
when you think it closed. See if something here helps:

Hi Brian,
Will now try your suggestion with the help of the link.

Will revert the result and thanks all.
