Recently, every application on my home PC brings up a popup of Windows
Install - preparing to install. The annoyance and fustration is that every
popup takes more than a minute or two to clear - I'm unable to cancel as the
screen freezes and the cursor ic immobile for the period.
Can anyone please help with a removal tool or patch to fix this problem. I
would be very grateful.

Thankyou Galen. The two references, the first does not help my problem and
the second, the cleanup utility... I'm at a loss as to which program(s) I
need to remove (for future reinstall). I suppose I'll try one at a time,
staring from the most recent.
Thanks again, I'll let you know how I go.

I see a lot of posts with persistent Installer. I now experience the same. Is
it a consequence of updates from Microsoft Updates? Which of all methods -
not using the CD - are found most effective?

When original installing Office 2002 it was part of the installation that
future updates etc would take place on-line to MS.

I recently installed Office2002 aka Office XP (Small Business edition) on my
sister's machine but opted to activate it later as the internet connection
was not available at the time. The machine was subsequently connected and
the nag screen for the activation magically disappeared. I now fear this
installer problem is waiting round the corner.

In your case it is probably worth confirming that it is the Office install
that is at the root of this via the FAQ link in the first link below.

Good luck,
ern.

Dear Ernie
Thank you for your concern - I have now surrendered and have brought my
computer to my work and here used the CD (Office XP). and now the problem has
disappeared.

I have tried to figur out what trickered my problem. For the last week my
Outlook has reported a failure to Microsoft (who will read it?) and then
closed. In the menu: HELP I choosen "Find and correct failures" and this
choise has started the "installer" and hereby - I guess - trickered my
problem - so -if I'm right - nevet choose "find and correct failure" unless
you have the CD.

Glad you "solved" your problem, Anders. Calling for functions which are not
typically installed as standard, is one of the causes mentioned in the
blogs.

ern.
