Is there any way to rotate the text in a cell such that
it is perpendicular to the axis? What I want to do is
have the top header cells on a chart to go up & down,
similar to the spine of a book, so that I can get more
infromation on the spreadsheet.

Yes. Select the cell; right-click, and select Format-Cells. Then go to the Alignment Tab and off to the left is white box which allows you to angle the text from horizontal to vertical with everyhere in between. Simply seet the indicator to the degree of angle you wish.

If you do this lots, you may want to add a few icons to your favorite toolbar.

Tools|customize|toolbars Tab (create a new toolbar???)

Commands Tab|Format Category
Look for the all the "rotate text up/down, etc" icons
drag them to your new toolbar.

(While you're in there, you may want to review all the other icons that are
available.)
