Hi,
I have a network set up in a computer lab in a school. The students save all
their work in the same folders in a common folder on each PC.
Occaisionally, I have to go through and print some things. Could I set the
folders in each PC of the work group to be shared with specific permission
for acces from my pc only (same work group). When I look for advanced
settings, the Location box contains only the PC I'm working at and I can't
seem to be able to add any other pC's in the network - other than everyone,
which I'd rather not do. Work group --> 17 pcs, each with a folder called
Work that I'd like to have accessible from one and only one of the PC's in
the work group, preferably with password.
Thanks
MK

If you're using workgroup authentication, you're hopefully logging into your
computer with a private account / password. What you'll need to do is add that
same account, with identical password, on each of the students computers. That
will enable you only to connect to each student computer, from whichever
computer you login to.

Access to the shared folders on the student computers will be restricted - but
by account / password (yours), rather than by remote computer. Just don't give
your password out.

BTW, posting your email address openly will get you more unwanted email, than
wanted email. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a
bit safer when posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the
internet - read this article.

Thanks, that did it, although it seems that it's not the current account
name, but the original one (if the account name was ever changed) that
matters.

Changing account names can cause headaches in various ways, so its good that you
noted that detail.

Thanks for the feedback.
