permanently display status bar

How I set the status bar so that it will be permenantly
displayed?

With the window open>view>check status bar.

Unfortunately, if you close IE6 and the re-open it the
Status Bar is no longer displayed. I would it like to
remain permanently displayed even if I close and re-open
IE. Suggestions?

Hold down shift key and click on the x (upper right hand corner of window,
that will save all settings and changes)
