Pentium 4 Northwood Cooler Suggestions

I posted to this group many years ago, needing advice on a cpu cooler
for a Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz Prescott cpu. I received the advice to
purchase a Zalman CNPS9500A LED.

I have upgraded since than, and now I would like to build a budget
system to run some of my low-profile applications. The system I am
building has the following cpu specs:

Intel
Pentium 4 2.60GHz Northwood
System Bus 800MHz
L2 Cache 512KB
Intel HT

The last thing to purchase is a cpu cooler. I was real happy, with my
Zalman but are open to other brand suggestions. If you are familiar
with the Pentium 4 and the 478 socket please comment.

I remembered in a closet I had an old 478 socket Celeron clocked at
1.7 GHz. It's cooler seems to be of the same design and shape of my
old boxed cooler for my Pentium 4 2.60c CPU. The label reads:

Intel
A80856-003
N 3X15D D2
F08G-12B2S1 06AC1
DC12V 0. 28A
NIDEC CORP

Is it possible I could recycle this cooler for use with my current
system?

They're pretty close, so give it a try.

In addition to the CPU cooler, make sure your case has good cooling.
Sometimes, the reason a cooler doesn't work well, is because there
is a "warm cloud" around the CPU area, and enhancing exhaust flow
near the back, can help. On one of my computer cases, making more
intake vent space available on the front of the case, helped the
rear fan, which was starved for air.

That's all you can do with coolers anyway. Try it, and if the processor
runs too hot, replace with something a little bigger.

With an older socket, you don't always have a wide selection at retail.
And sometimes, the products that are available, may not fit all computer
cases (such as some of the larger Zalman ones).

Purely for your amusement, they're still selling Tuniq Tower
coolers. For some reason, some of those still seem to be
for sale. You'd think all interest in S478 would be gone
by now. This thing is big enough, it hides a 120mm fan
inside it.

And you can still get quite a few of the Zalman ones. I used
a 7000 series one on my P4, and the fan lasted for as long
as I used that system. So I can't complain about it wearing
out or anything.
