Pendrive installation error

Hi,

Sorry for posting this here after having posted the same to
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general, but I did not realize that there
was a hardware specific forum.

Since I did a fresh install of Windows XP, each time I connect a
pendrive to my laptop Windows asks me to install the drivers for a
"Disk Drive". I have tried to install them manually, automatically,
downloading the updated drivers from the Internet, but the result is
always the same error: "Error installing device. The specific service
does not exist as an installed service".

Looking in setupapi.log, I see that Windows tries to filter by an
strange string:

#I123 Realizando instalación completa de "USBSTOR
\DISK&VEN_CMTECHNO&PROD_LIVE_MUSIC_K&REV_0001\E07420E5301E0000&0".
#E263 Filtrar servicio: error al abrir el servicio "?&". Error 1060:
El servicio especificado no existe como servicio instalado.
<=== Here is the strange filter
#E275 Error al instalar servicios. Error 1060: El servicio
especificado no existe como servicio
instalado. <=== And here the error
#E122 Error en la instalación del dispositivo. Error 1060: El servicio
especificado no existe como servicio instalado.
#E154 Error en el instalador de clase. Error 1060: El servicio
especificado no existe como servicio instalado.
#I060 Se ha establecido el controlador seleccionado.
#I125 Instalando controlador NULO para "USBSTOR
\DISK&VEN_CMTECHNO&PROD_LIVE_MUSIC_K&REV_0001\E07420E5301E0000&0".
#I121 La instalación del dispositivo de "USBSTOR
\DISK&VEN_CMTECHNO&PROD_LIVE_MUSIC_K&REV_0001\E07420E5301E0000&0"
terminó correctamente.

The same happens with every pendrive I insert and though after the
error the files in the pendrive are accesible, it is a pain to be
asked everytime to install the drivers and to get the error.

Is there any workaround for this?

Thanks,
Fran
