Peer To Peer XP Home To Win95

After running the Network Wizard on my XP Home system, I tried to set up my
Win95 system to join the Workgroup, only to discover that the XP Wizard does
not create a Domain Name. I only want a simple peer to peer connection so I
can share files, and NOT share my cable connection to the XP system. XP
doesn't seem to address this configuration. Upgrading the Win95 system is
not a viable option for numerous reasons.

Is there a work-around to this problem, or should I give it up as a lost
cause?

Thanx for any help,

This should not pose any great difficulty if you go about it right.

Firstly, I'd use static IP addresses. Win95 doesn't have the "automatic" IP
assignment of later versions, so without either a static IP or DHCP, it will
sit there and do nothing.

The other main point is that if you're having authentication problems, you
need to create a user-account on the XP machine with the same credentials as
the Win95 user. That should allow the 95 machine to access files on the XP
one.

To allow the XP machine to get files from the 95 one, you need to add File
and Printer Sharing to the Network control-panel if it isn't already
installed. Then you need to set a share-password for each share on the 95
machine. 95 doesn't care about usernames, only passwords, so the shares will
be accessible for any XP user.
