Peer to Peer XP Prof to XP Home?

Hi,
Just bought a new XP Pro computer and would like to set up a peer to
peer network with our older XP Home. I have tried and have gotten them to
be able to share the cable internet connection, but they cannot connect to
each other. The old Home edition computer can "see" the new one, but it
will not let me "add a network place". The new XP Pro computer can not
"see" the old Home computer. Any suggestions, please? Thanks!

Without more details, it's hard to say what's wrong.

Since you have a cable Internet connection, I'm going to assume that
you've also got a home broadband router and that everything connects
to the router. If that's not right, please post another news group
message with full details of your setup.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on both computers. If it detects the
router's shared Internet connection, tell the Wizard to use that
connection. If it doesn't, tell the Wizard that the computers connect
to the Internet through a residential gateway.

If there's a firewall program (Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm, PC-cillin,
etc) on either computer, configure it to allow access by other
computers on the local area network.

Do not use the option "Add a network place" - it is not applicable for
setting up "home" network.

Steve's suggestion e.g. running the wizard is likely the solution - pay due
regard to the options. If you are "sharing" an internet connection by use
of ICS - you have a network connection.

Mommio2,

1. Make sure that the workgroup is the same on both computers.

2. Make sure that you have enabled a drive or folder on each computer
for sharing.

3. Turn off firewall software. Router firewall should not be an issue.
I have had many headaches with Zone alarm in this situation.

Hopes that helps.
