My upstairs PC is a Win 2k Pro with a cable internet connection using one
NIC and a second NIC not used for anything. Downstairs is a Windows 98
computer. I am trying to do a direct network connection between the two
using a crossover cable so I can share files. Yet this seems to be proving
difficult. I need a KB article or webpage that can outline the steps I need
to take to accomplish this.

Thanks

Thanks.

My cable internet setup has me as a member of their workgroup. Will this be
affected? Particularly in regard to step 2f.

Spend 50 bucks on a Cable/DSL router with network ports. It'll make life a
LOT easier and you need it anyway as a firewall. It's absouletly foolish to
be connected to cable internet without being behind a NAT router.

On the Win2K PC, create local user account(s), with non-blank
password(s), that have the desired access privileges to the desired
shares. Log on to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will
be able to access the designated shares, provided your network is
configured properly.
