Peculiar problem on IE6

IE6 was working fine till this morning...Now I cannot open any url. It says
page cannot be displayed. Check your internet connection. I tried several
sites using ip address also. I can ping to these url's in a command mode.
Surprisingly my MSN messenger and Yahoo messenger works fine. Only IE is not
working. Any clues what's going wrong?

Hi,

To connect to the internet we need something called a network stack(TCP/IP).
For any windows application to interact with tcp/ip we need something called
winsock (windows sockets).
Follow 811259 (Just go to the section which says "how to recover from
winsock2 corruption")

Note: If you have SP2 installed on your computer click on start->Run-> and
in the run box type
"netsh winsock reset" (without the quotes)

Saureshwar, Glad to see your response. Unfortunately none of the winsock
issues resolved. Occasionally I get to open web sites for few seconds and if
I click subsequent links I get "The page cannot be displayed" and no other
link I can open. After several reboots I can open the sites again for few
seconds. Messenger services works fine. Not sure what's going wrong.

Hi Galop :)

Try the following information and see if it helps:

First., download and install BHODemon from
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm
Your problem may be caused by a bad BHO.

If this does not resolve the problem, the do the following:

Also download and install HiJackThis -

NOTE: If you can not download these programs from the Internet, if your PC
has CD read capabilities, go to another computer with CD-ROM burning
capabilities. Create a folder on the hard drive of the other computer called
HOLD, download the programs to that folder, then burn that folder to a CD.
Copy the HOLD folder to your HD and then install the programs from there
and run them. After you have IE access again, update all programs where
possible to get the latest definitions and run them again in Safe Mode to be
sure there are no lingering items on the system.

Hope this helps :)
