How do I insert one on a page so that a client can
download and open it in Acrobat?

Linking to a .pdf is the same as linking to any .htm page in your site.

If you want users to download the .pdf to their hard drive, you will
probably want to add a note next to the link. Internet Explorer will open
..pdf files inside itselft since Acrobat can work as an embedded application.
Other browsers, such as Opera, will download automatically.
 
In case it isn't obvious, this means you need to import the .pdf document
into your website and publish it to the server.
