PDF maker without PostScript nuisance?

Hello,

Can someone recommend a PDF maker that DOESN'T rely on PostScript or
GhostScript?

It's possible that the information I'm talking about is outdated, but:

Some time ago, I downloaded a PDF maker. Then I found out it depnded
on PS, so I also downloaded a PS software. But the PS software was
command-line, and the documentation didn't tell me what the commands
were. By this time I was frustrated, and just chucked the whole thing.

Now I want to make a PDF again. Is there an EASY way for LAZY people
to do this?

Thank you for all replies.

Yes! now after I tell you about this freeware with a pop advertisment,
chaos will break lose onto this newsgroup.
People will go berserker demanding for votes,
long endless discussions of blabbering and loss of time will come...

ah well..... his is your last warning. If you want peace in the world do not
read the
following information.

I personally use a nice application that is free and only pop ups an
advertisment
after you use it to print. Its really not a big deal since you wait only a
few seconds and close the window.
If you want pure freeware like virgin mary do not use this. DO NOT CLICK ON
THE FOLLOWING because you are not free to learn information, even if it may
be useful to you.

Not sure if these rely on PS or GS, but neither one requires additional
downloads or installs. Each one installs all you need to make a pdf.
Both claim to work with Win98.

Remlap knowledgeBase
<q>A free-form text, images and objects organizer, with multi-
user/network support, incorporating an intuitive system of Keyword
Indexing to ensure accurate and fast searching.</q>

Just export a document to pdf. Very simple. It is a nice program for
storing all sorts of info. I use it and like it a lot.

PrimoPDF
<q>Convert to PDF from any application by simply 'printing' to the
PrimoPDF® printer - it couldn't be easier! Within minutes, you can
create high-quality PDFs by converting from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and
virtually any other printable file type.</q>

This one offers a seperate download for Win98.

I also use and like this.

I have encountered no problems with either one. No spyware, popups, ads,
or anything else.

Thank you for all replies.

You don't HAVE to know much about Ghostscript to use a PDF maker with a
graphical front-end.

PDFrank (whose laziness would be legendary were it known) endorses only
one such program, and that is PDF Creator, available here:

http://www.pdfforge.org/products/pdfcreator

Once you have installed it, and you've begun making PDFs, you will also
want to get this:

BeCyPDFMetaEdit

(I hate the name, but love the program.)

available here:

http://www.becyhome.de/becypdfmetaedit/description_eng.htm

so that you can add the features your users will appreciate such as
bookmarks, logical page numbers and transition effects.

Then, if you want to convert an HTML document to PDF and preserve all
the internal and external links, and maybe even generate a hyperlinked
table of contents, you will learn to appreciate HTMLDOC, which can be
obtained here:

http://users.tpg.com.au/naffall/htmldoc.html

Don't forget the manual.

http://www.easysw.com/htmldoc/htmldoc.pdf

which is itself a good example of what the software can do.

The last two programs do not need Ghostscript. All three of them (last
I checked) are free.

Oh, I nearly forgot.

If you want to create PDFs WYSIWYG style, with "tags," OpenOffice.org
2.0 could be the only program you'll ever need -- independent of
Ghostscript (and just about everything else.)

Sure it's a big download. But you've surely waited longer for far less
benefit.

Just wanted to mention this tool too, which came in handy for me when
manipulating .pdfs.

In reality there's no such thing. The text in the PDF format is basically
compressed PostScript, but I think I know what you mean. As PDFrank stated
in his post, PDFCreator is completely transparent to the user, you need
have no knowledge of what's going on in the background. One installation
and you're done, nothing additional to install or download.
